Rexburg: More than just Ricks College BYU-Idaho
Rexburg is one of the fastest growing communities in Idaho. It's the home of BYU-Idaho, the four-year university that sprang from the two-year Ricks College. That shift has spurred an incredible amount of growth in the area. Many new businesses and franchises have come to the area in response to this growth. But Rexburg is more than just a college town ... well, mostly.
Restraunts
One of the best restraunts to visit in Rexburg is Gringo's, a Mexican restraunt tucked behind the Westwood Theater just off of Main St. and Center. It's right across from the Paramount Twin Theater. So, not only is it great Mexican food, it's ideally located for a dinner and a movie date: you can do both without changing your parking space.
And the food is well worth it. Helpings are generous, delicious, and dripping with cheese. Make sure you bring an appetite if you go here.
But at Gringo's you can only order a virgin margarita. No tequila in Rexburg. That's why chain restaurants won't come to town because of Rexburg's liquor laws. Applebee's can only serve beer and wine. No mixed drinks. So if you want Applebee's Perfect Margarita (which it is) go to Idaho Falls and stay away from Rexburg.
If you're looking for a tasty treat, try Millhollow, the best frozen yogurt in town. It's located just two blocks from Gringo's and the theater. The flavors change daily, so there is always a reason to go, and if you can't decide, you can have more than one flavor. The best part - very reasonable prices. If you want to eat, they also serve sandwiches (hot and cold) and salads, along with fruit smoothies. Want to take some home? They do that too with hard frozen yogurt in different sizes. It's a great place to spend time with friends or family and get a cool treat. They also have the best sandwiches ever. Their specialty is a warm sandwich on homemade sour dough bread. It is a wonderful and unique place to have lunch.
Our Library
While you're in Rexburg, come to the Madsion Library District, just down the street from Gringo's. We're a small but growing library with all the modern features, such as computers for patrons and guests, free wifi, DVDs to check out, and even E-Audiobooks available for downloading from our Web site.
A great place to eat in Rexburg is the the HARD HAT STEAKHOUSE & GRILL located on 859 S. Yellowstone Hwy. The food is wonderful and so is the service. The atmosphere is fun and casual. They also have several large tables for bigger groups. Take your date or entire family. You will probably be asking for a take home box as portions are large.
A place of interest to visit in Rexburg is the Teton Flood Museum. The museum is housed in the historic LDS Tabernacle building at 51 North Center. They show a spectacular film showing the breaking of the Teton Dam, the devastation it caused, and the restoration of the communities impacted by the flood. You can also see Western memorabilia, war memorablilia, artifacts, and many items from the past. For more information call 359-3063.
Pedestrians
If you are a pedestrian in Rexburg, please be aware that after dark you are invisible to drivers, as most streets are not very well lit. If I were you, I would begin a petition to have more street lighting installed and to make sure lights are replaced as needed. I would also petition to have flashing lights installed at more crosswalks.
