Fruitland

Page history last edited by coffee-break librarian 11 mos ago

Beautiful Fruitland is located approx. 45 minutes NW of Boise right on the Oregon border.  As the name implies we are smack dab in the middle of orchards and farmland (that seems to be dwindling as new subdivisions are planned).  The population is approx. 3500 in city limits with a large rural area that feeds into our school system.  We are located in Payette County which includes Fruitland, New Plymouth and Payette (the county seat).  The mayor of our town is Tom Limbaugh who is also a local orchard/farm owner.  Fruitland industries include Woodgrain Manufacturing and Dickinson's Frozen Foods.  CT Derm is also located in Fruitland which is the office of reputed dermatologist Dr. Carl Thornfeldt, the creator of the Epionce line of skin care products.

Places of note in Fruitland:

Nichol's Steak House--people travel from far and wide for their prime rib although it has recently acquired new owners

Apple Bin Restaurant--lovely breakfasts and comforting lunches also under new ownership (odd for both but it is because original owners of both have passed on or retired)

The Green Tree--drive-thru restaurant that serves the famous Grizzly Burger and yummy milkshakes

Val's Floral and Gifts--beautiful work

Fruitland Nursery--serving landscaping needs in Fruitland for a long time

We also have a couple of pizza places, Subway, Howard's nursery, Moxie Java, assorted bars and a couple of tattoo parlors.

We have been blessed with the addition of a community library in the past few years serving the needs of the local population.

Fruitland is the home of the Grizzlies with a proud tradition of excellence is all aspects of education.  We now have 4 schools with the recent addition of a brand new elementary building; we also have an intermediate, middle and high school.  We have one of the most outstanding bands in the state under the direction of Joel Williams and we are the hometown of Carolina Panthers offensive lineman Jordan Gross.  Our Ag dept. and Business Professionals can also boast a tradition of excellence with award winning teams at both the state and national levels.

Since we are located just across the Snake River from Ontario, OR much of our commerce occurs on that side of the river with a plethora of fast food restaurants, the requiste Wal-Mart and K-Mart, car dealerships, an excellent quilt shop and many more assorted locally owned shops and restaurants.  Brewsky's Broiler is a stand-out and a favorite Friday night hot spot and if coffee is your game you can't beat Jolts & Juice (they roast their own).  Ontario also is the home of the Reel Theatre with 8 screens showing nightly.

Fruitland is located at the crossroads of many favored destinations:  45 min. to the west is the beautiful Owyhee Resevoir, Hell's Canyon-the deepest in North America-approx. 90 min north and we sit directly on Hwy. 95 which runs from the Canadian border to the Mexican border.  Outdoor sports abound with hunting, fishing, white-water rafting, kayaking, hiking and camping all within close range.
