Cottonwood

Page history last edited by Muriel Sower 6 mos ago

Cottonwood is a small town in the Northern Idaho Panhandle, about 55 miles from Lewiston which is the closest city. It is a beautiful, and quiet area. It is located on the prairie so farm land abounds. The crops grown are wheat, canola and all you've heard about it looking like a huge quilt is true.

There is a population of around 2200 including the surrounding areas of Keuterville, Ferdinand and Greencreek.

Hunting, fishing, camping, 4-wheeling and boating are pretty much the recreation of the area during the summer and fall months. When the snow falls  we have  a ski course and plenty of beautiful areas around to snowmobile.

We have a museum about 4 miles out of Cottonwood at  St. Gertrudes Monastery. Here there are some items that were left by Polly Bemis including a few of her clothes and items she may have used while living on the river. Plus the history of how St. Gertrudes came to be located here.

We also boast "The Worlds Biggest Beagle" built by Dennis. He does many woodcarvings and people enjoy stopping to look at all of the many woodcarvings he has made. You can even stay inside the "Big Dog" and enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner at the 'Country Haus" which is a very short walk or drive away.
